Achievements

  • Contributed to the reduction of the HIV and AIDS prevalence in Lyantonde and Rakai Districts from about 25% in the mid 1990’s to 12% to date.

  • Contributed to reduction of stigma in the community.

  • Stimulated community action towards prevention of HIV and mitigation of side effects. To date there are over 500 functional community groups dealing with issues of HIV and AIDS.

  • Provided counseling to over 16,484 people including those living with AIDS and others affected by HIV.

  • Trained 341 Volunteer AIDS Counselors to provide psychosocial support.

  • Trained as AIDS educators a total of 512 primary and secondary school teachers, 221 women leaders, youth leaders and traditional birth attendants who in turn have disseminated HIV and AIDS information to over 100,000 people to date.

  • Supported over 552 Child-Headed Households to cope with daily challenges of living without parents; and constructed over 150 houses while 130 have been supported to start Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

  • Supported over 6,322 AIDS affected families with relief assistance including food, shelter, clothing, etc.

  • Supported over 555 community based and self-help groups whose membership includes over 9,000 HIV and AIDS affected people. Support includes agricultural training, provision of agricultural tools (hoes, machetes, seeds, etc) and market information on their respective products (prices, need, etc).

  • Established agricultural demonstration gardens in 8 sub counties to promote improved agricultural practices and to increase food production at household level. Families of people affected by HIV and AIDS are accessing seedlings and receiving training support from these farms.

  • Supported the establishment of a new HIV and AIDS project in Sembabule District.
